Veer Autonomous Inc. (“Veer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) builds spatial software for autonomous vehicle developers. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you visit veerautonomous.com (the “Site”) or interact with our services.
We keep this policy short because our data footprint is deliberately small. We don’t serve ads, we don’t sell personal information, and we don’t run user accounts on the Site. Veer Studio, our desktop application, operates locally on your machine and does not send your point cloud data or maps to our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
We collect information you voluntarily give us when you:
- Contact us: When you email us or submit a form on the Site, we receive your name, email address, employer or organization (if provided), and anything else you choose to include in your message.
- Subscribe to updates: If you sign up for our newsletter or product announcements, we collect your email address. We use double opt-in: we only start sending after you confirm your subscription through the confirmation email. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Apply or inquire about Enterprise: If you contact us about Commercial or Enterprise licensing, we collect the business information you provide (company name, use case, team size, etc.).
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Site, we may automatically collect:
- Usage data: Pages viewed, links clicked, time on page, referring URL, browser type, operating system, and device type. This is standard web analytics.
- Technical data: IP address (which gives us approximate geographic region), browser language preferences, and screen resolution.
2. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Necessary cookies: These keep the Site functioning (e.g., load balancing, security). They don’t require consent under most privacy laws.
- Analytics cookies: If we deploy an analytics service, we will use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics where possible (e.g., Cloudflare Web Analytics or Plausible). We don’t use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels from ad networks.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The Site will continue to work, though analytics data will not be recorded for your visit.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site
- Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
- Send product updates, technical content, and company news (if you’ve opted in)
- Understand how developers and organizations discover and use Veer Studio
- Detect and prevent security incidents, fraud, and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Third-Party Services
We use a small set of third-party services to operate the Site and business. These providers may receive the minimum data necessary to perform their function:
- Infrastructure: Cloudflare (hosting, CDN, DDoS protection). Cloudflare processes visitor traffic as our infrastructure provider.
- Downloads: GitHub (Releases). When you download Veer Studio, you interact directly with GitHub. See GitHub’s Privacy Statement.
- Community: Discord and Discourse. When you join our community spaces, those platforms govern the data you share there. We don’t export or mine community data.
- Email: We self-host listmonk (served at lists.veerautonomous.com) to store newsletter and waitlist signups and send our emails. listmonk sends through Mailgun as the outbound SMTP relay. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
We evaluate all third-party providers for privacy and security practices before integrating them.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell personal information. Period.
We may share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: With the third parties listed above, under data-processing agreements that limit their use to the services they provide us.
- Legal obligations: When required by law, regulation, legal process, or lawful request by a government or public authority. This includes responding to national security or law enforcement requirements where legally compelled.
- Protection of rights: To protect the rights, property, and safety of Veer, our users, and the public.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as a business asset.
6. Veer Studio Desktop Application
Veer Studio is a native desktop application that runs locally on your computer. It does not upload your point cloud data, Lanelet2 maps, or project files to our servers. The application may periodically check for updates (standard version-check HTTP requests), and crash reports (if you opt in) may include anonymized diagnostic data. We do not collect telemetry about your mapping activity, file contents, or usage patterns within the application without your explicit consent.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Contact form submissions and business correspondence are typically retained for the duration of the relationship plus a reasonable period. Analytics data is retained in aggregate and may be kept indefinitely in anonymized form.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. If you have reason to believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us immediately.
9. International Visitors
Veer is based in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the US, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the US or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. By using the Site, you acknowledge this transfer.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to individuals under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will provide a more prominent notice (for example, a note on the homepage or a direct email to subscribers). Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
